Port of Hannover to Digitize Logistics with Körber

The Port of Hannover, a key multimodal hub in Europe, is advancing its digitalization efforts through a partnership with Körber. Announced in May 2023, the port will implement new Transport Management System (TMS) and Yard Management System (YMS) solutions by the end of the year.

The primary objective of these new systems is to optimize logistics processes and strengthen the port's role as an information interface within complex supply chains. Robert Thalmann, Head of Port Logistics at Städtische Häfen Hannover, highlighted the systems' importance in improving data availability for partners, aiming to establish a seamless digital chain from origin to final delivery.

Körber will provide a TMS solution for optimized transport scheduling, digital communication, analysis, and billing. Complementing this, a YMS will manage space allocation, mobile data capture, and automated operations within the port's approximately 25,000 square meter container yard. The port annually handles around 40,000 transport units, and the new platform is expected to improve resource utilization, data collection, and process integration.

This collaboration builds on a twenty-year relationship between the Port of Hannover and Körber, which previously focused on paperless operations and electronic data exchange. Michael Brandl of Körber noted that inland waterway transport is an environmentally friendly and safe mode, and this investment in integrated logistics solutions supports the port's future development. The partnership aims to enhance both economic efficiency and environmental sustainability in the port's operations.
