Port of Virginia orders 36 Konecranes automated cranes for over EUR 130 million
The Port of Virginia has placed an order worth over EUR 130 million for 36 Konecranes Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs). Deliveries are scheduled between mid-2025 and mid-2027.

The Port of Virginia has ordered 36 Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) from Finnish manufacturer Konecranes in a deal valued at over EUR 130 million. The order, to be booked in Konecranes' second-quarter results, will equip the port's Norfolk International Terminals facility.
The delivery will be split into two batches, with the first 18 cranes expected by mid-2025 and the remaining 18 by mid-2027. This significant investment aims to expand the port's capacity and enhance operational efficiency.
This is not the first order from the Port of Virginia for Konecranes. The port previously received 30 ASCs in 2007 and another 86 in 2016, demonstrating a long-standing relationship. Konecranes, a specialist in port equipment and automation, highlights that this order supports its 'Path to Port Automation' initiatives.
The expansion is crucial for the Port of Virginia to maintain its competitiveness in the global shipping market. The new automated cranes are expected to improve container handling speeds and streamline operations, reinforcing its role as a key East Coast gateway.
