Portal Nomis One Inflatable Rooftop Tent Debuts on Kickstarter

Outdoor gear company Portal announced the launch of its first inflatable rooftop tent, the Nomis One, through a Kickstarter campaign. The tent utilizes an air-beam design, reducing its weight to approximately 45.8 lbs (20.8 kg), significantly lighter than many traditional rooftop tents which can weigh between 120โ€“180 lbs (54โ€“82 kg). The launch targets the growing market for vehicle-based camping and overlanding, where ease of use and reduced weight are key features.

Portal states that the Nomis One can be inflated in as little as 8.5 minutes using an electric pump, offering a faster setup compared to conventional rooftop tents. The inflatable structure is intended to provide stability, and the tent is constructed from durable 300D Oxford fabric with a 5,000 mm PU waterproof rating, designed for all-weather performance. When deployed, the tent measures 92.5 ร— 59 inches (235 x 150 cm) and can accommodate 2โ€“3 people.

The Nomis One is also designed for versatility, functioning as a truck bed tent or a ground tent in addition to its rooftop application. Portal chose the Kickstarter platform to engage early adopters and gather feedback from the outdoor community, offering early backers discounted pricing. Founded in 2011, Portal focuses on simplifying outdoor living through engineering and user-centric design.
