Posit Software named official CVE Numbering Authority

Posit Software has received authorization to issue and manage vulnerability identifiers for its software and cloud services.

27 October 2026

Posit Software, the developer behind tools including RStudio, Positron, and Shiny, has been designated as a CVE Numbering Authority (CNA). This status grants the company the authority to assign CVE IDs and publish vulnerability records directly for its open-source and professional software offerings.

The CVE system serves as a global industry standard for documenting cybersecurity vulnerabilities. By becoming a CNA, Posit assumes direct responsibility for managing its own security disclosures, streamlining the process of reporting and patching software flaws.

This shift moves security documentation under the company's internal purview, aiming to provide users with more timely and accurate information regarding vulnerabilities in the Posit ecosystem, including platforms like Quarto.
