Posti Awarded Newspaper Delivery Support in 37 Regions
Posti has secured government grants for newspaper delivery in 37 regions across Finland, following a competitive tendering process. The support ensures five-day early-morning delivery in areas where it is not commercially viable.
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has awarded government grants to support newspaper delivery in regions where a five-day early-morning schedule is not commercially sustainable. Posti emerged as the successful bidder in a competitive tender for 37 of these regions.
Traficom had allocated funding for 40 regions out of 42 where the grants were available. Posti was granted delivery support for all regions except Kemi, Posio, and Tervola. For two regions in Lapland that received no applications, Traficom will impose a public service obligation on Posti as per the Postal Act.
The initiative aims to ensure the continued availability of newspapers throughout Finland, particularly in less populated or geographically challenging areas. This government support is crucial for maintaining the reach of printed media and the related distribution networks.
Early-morning newspaper delivery typically occurs before 7 AM on weekdays. The funding is intended to bridge the economic gap for distributors, ensuring that residents in remote areas also receive their daily news promptly.
