Premium Japan Award Honors Cultural Champions in Tokyo

The Japan Culture Creation Organization (JCCO) presented the inaugural Premium Japan Award on September 29, 2026, at the Kanze Noh Theater in Tokyo's Ginza district. The new honor recognizes individuals, organizations, and projects that preserve, advance, and share Japanese culture both within Japan and globally.

Sixteen recipients were honored at the ceremony, including the Grand Prix winner and six additional awards sponsored by partner organizations. The Grand Prix was awarded to "Japanese Cuisine Complete," a project by the Japanese Culinary Academy. This initiative systematically documents the knowledge, techniques, and cultural heritage of Japanese cuisine for future generations and international audiences.

The award was established in partnership with the online media platform Premium Japan to highlight significant contributions to Japanese culture, often referred to as "hidden gems." The initiative aims to shine a light on those advancing the development and preservation of Japanese culture across various fields, including craftsmanship, traditional performing arts, food, and regional culture.

Notable award recipients included kabuki actor Hayato Nakamura for his international performances, the fashion brand A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, and stone art company Okurayama Studio, which utilizes regional stone for artistic and architectural purposes. The awards collectively showcase the diversity and global reach of Japanese cultural contributions.
