Press Wholesale Sector Expands Digitalization and Retail Presence

Germany's press wholesale sector has expanded its point-of-sale activities and digital business processes during 2025. The sector association reported the execution of approximately 20 nationwide campaigns, which involved 25,000 floor displays. Additionally, a new shelf allocation system for press products was introduced. The Optipress app processed over 22 million scans at retail shelves since June 2023. Data management was also consolidated and expanded, according to the trade association.

A significant focus was placed on preparing for the EU's Deforestation Regulation. In collaboration with organizations such as BDZV, BVDM, and MVFP, the paper value chain successfully advocated for exemptions for printed products or for making the requirements more practical. The association intends to continue this course, particularly aiming to reduce bureaucratic burdens for small and medium-sized enterprises.

For the 2026/2027 period, the association has outlined several priorities. These include securing attractive press display spaces in grocery retail, further developing the Optipress application, and implementing new packaging legislation and electronic invoicing. These plans are aligned with ongoing efforts to enhance the sector's retail presence, digitalization, and regulatory framework.
