Proalpha Product Configurator in Use at SmartFactoryKL

Proalpha Group's product configurator is now being utilized as part of the SmartFactoryKL demonstrator, a facility focused on production digitalization and industrial automation.

The proALPHA system is employed at SmartFactoryKL from order entry through to production completion. Key aspects include the manufacturing of individual products and small batch sizes, such as 'lot size 1'. The product configurator combines virtual configuration with direct production data transfer for enhanced speed and efficiency.

"Customers increasingly desire more flexible and individualized products. Product configurators make this economically viable," stated Markus Berg, Head of Development in Business Processes at proALPHA. A distinguishing feature of proALPHA's configurator is its deep integration with the ERP system. This allows for a real-time 3D view during configuration, generation of CAD drawings, cost calculation, and even the creation of configuration-specific instructions.

The system enables sales personnel to manage configurations without needing extensive technical expertise or engineering support. Data is automatically transferred to production, ensuring up-to-date information and reducing error potential. This application at SmartFactoryKL serves as a practical demonstration of Industry 4.0 principles.

Proalpha has collaborated with SmartFactoryKL for over nine years, focusing on future production challenges like shorter product lifecycles and growing demand for customization. The use of a product configurator is presented as a logical step toward more efficient and competitive operations for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.
