Prof. Dr. Andreas H. Jacobs Appointed Professor of Geriatrics with Focus on Oncogeriatic

Prof. Dr. Andreas H. Jacobs has accepted a W3 professorship in geriatrics, focusing on oncogeriatic care, at the University of Bonn. Jacobs, who has led the Department of Geriatrics and Neurology at Johanniter-Kliniken Bonn since 2012, will further strengthen academic geriatrics in Bonn, particularly at the intersection of geriatrics and oncology.

The professorship is based at the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) of the University Hospital Bonn (UKB). The appointment aims to enhance university-level geriatric medicine in Bonn and integrate geriatric expertise earlier into cancer treatment pathways. Professor Jacobs emphasized the growing importance of oncogeriatic care due to demographic shifts and an increasing number of elderly cancer patients.

Jacobs brings extensive clinical experience and proven scientific expertise to the role. His prior professorship in Target Biology and Chemistry at the European Institute for Molecular Imaging provides a valuable complementary perspective. He intends to leverage this background in national and international research activities, aiming to advance geriatric medicine scientifically and establish new care approaches.

The professorship also seeks to foster closer collaboration between Johanniter-Kliniken Bonn and the University Hospital Bonn.
