Professor evaluates EndoDrill GI biopsy technology in clinical symposium

Professor Shyam Thakkar of West Virginia University presented clinical experience using the EndoDrill GI instrument for liver biopsies during a virtual industry symposium.

29 October 2026

During a virtual symposium hosted by TaeWoong Medical USA on October 27, 2026, Professor Shyam Thakkar, Director of Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at West Virginia University, detailed his clinical use of the EndoDrill GI instrument. The presentation centered on the device's application in endoscopic ultrasound-guided liver biopsy (EUS-LB).

Thakkar highlighted the instrument’s ability to extract large, preserved tissue samples without the use of vacuum suction. This mechanical approach represents a departure from traditional biopsy methods, potentially offering improvements in sample integrity for pathological assessment.

Developed by BiBBInstruments AB, EndoDrill GI is a powered biopsy device. The company maintains that the instrument has received the necessary market clearances for clinical deployment.
