Professor Álvaro Cartea Appointed Director of Oxford-Man Institute
Professor Álvaro Cartea has been named the new Director of the Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance. His expertise covers algorithmic trading and machine learning in finance.

Professor Álvaro Cartea has been appointed as the new Director of the Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance (OMI), a research institute at the University of Oxford focused on machine learning and data analytics in quantitative finance.
Cartea brings extensive experience in algorithmic trading, mathematical finance, financial economics, asset pricing, and energy markets. The institute, now in its 15th year, operates during a period of significant advancements in machine learning, data availability, and high-performance computing within quantitative finance.
Prior to this appointment, Cartea served as a Professor of Mathematical Finance at the University of Oxford and is a founding member and Deputy Chairman of the Commodities & Energy Markets Association (CEMA). His previous roles include positions at University College London and JP Morgan.
Cartea also holds the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Applied Mathematical Finance Journal and serves on the editorial boards of several other industry publications. He succeeds Professor Stephen Roberts, who led the institute for five years and spearheaded its transition into machine learning and data analytics research.
Man Group and the University of Oxford have collaborated since 2007, with Man Group providing foundational funding for OMI and operating an adjacent commercial research laboratory. This partnership has advanced research in quantitative finance and its application in systematic investment management.
