Protesters Gather Outside OpenAI's DevDay Event
Multiple organizations staged a protest outside OpenAI's annual DevDay event in San Francisco. Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for the company to prioritize people over profit.
Several organizations organized a protest on Tuesday outside the Fort Mason event venue in San Francisco as OpenAI kicked off its annual DevDay conference.
Protesters, including groups such as Bay Resistance and the Tech Workers Coalition, gathered in front of the event entrance. They chanted slogans like "Sam Altman, get off it, put people over profit" and carried signs reading "PEOPLE OVER PROFIT."
More than a dozen organizations sponsored the rally. These included the Service Employees International Union, San Francisco Rising, and the San Francisco Labor Council. One sign specifically called for OpenAI to "Drop the ICE contract," referencing a contract with U.S. immigration and customs enforcement.
OpenAI has not issued a statement regarding the protest. DevDay is OpenAI's yearly event for AI developers and researchers to discuss the company's latest technologies and future roadmap.
