Protesters infiltrate Microsoft data center construction site in Amsterdam
Approximately 100 protesters gained access to a Microsoft construction site in Amsterdam to oppose the development of three data center towers.

A group of approximately 100 protesters breached the perimeter of a Microsoft data center construction site in the outskirts of Amsterdam on Tuesday. Members of the activist group Geef Tegengas scaled a crane to display banners, expressing opposition to the company’s plan to erect three 85-meter data center towers.
The demonstration focused on the environmental and societal impact of large-scale infrastructure projects. Protesters utilized slogans to criticize the company's investments in artificial intelligence and broader corporate practices, disrupting construction activities for several hours.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions regarding the expansion of data-hungry infrastructure in the Netherlands. Amsterdam implemented a strict regulatory framework over a year ago to curb the rapid growth of data centers, citing energy grid constraints and spatial pressures. This project remains a focal point for critics challenging the balance between technological expansion and municipal capacity.
