Provimedia examines server-side tracking and Google Consent Mode v2 architecture

Digital marketing faces structural changes as browser-based tracking becomes less effective due to the deprecation of third-party cookies and privacy-focused features like Apple's Intelligent Tracking Prevention. Provimedia GmbH reports that businesses are increasingly shifting toward server-side tracking to maintain data integrity and regulatory compliance.

By moving data processing from the user's browser to a proprietary server container, companies can retain greater authority over data flow. This architecture works in tandem with Google Consent Mode v2, which serves as a technical mechanism to communicate user consent signals—such as ad storage and personalization preferences—to Google services before data collection occurs.

Provimedia highlights the distinction between basic and advanced consent configurations. While basic setups prioritize data blocking, advanced modes allow for the modeling of conversions from anonymous, non-consenting users. This enables advertisers to bridge measurement gaps caused by cookie blocking, though it requires precise technical implementation to ensure compliance with privacy laws.
