PS5 Emulator Update Adds Support for PS2 Physical Disc Games

Developer Sword has announced an update to the PS5SX2 emulator (v2.01), enabling support for PlayStation 2 physical disc games on jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles. This new version allows PS2 titles to run at resolutions up to six times higher than their original output.
The emulator functions by first copying the game data from the PS2 disc to the PS5's internal hard drive. Games are then launched from these copied files, rather than directly from the disc. Consequently, PS2 games originally released on CD format are not currently supported, as the PS5's internal optical drive only reads Blu-ray and DVD discs.
A subsequent update, v2.02, introduced an experimental feature allowing PS2 discs to be read via external USB DVD or Blu-ray drives. This aims to improve usability, particularly for users with digital-only PS5 models. The developer has also indicated intentions to add support for physical PS3 disc reading to a PS5 port of the RPCS3 emulator.
