PS5 hacking scene makes significant advance with Relapse exploit

The PlayStation 5 hacking community has achieved a significant advancement with the release of the Relapse exploit, which enables jailbreaking for a wider range of console firmware versions. Previously, such exploits often required outdated firmware, but Relapse is effective on PS5s running up to version 13.6, released in July.
This development means that any PS5 updated before firmware version 14.00.00, released in mid-September, is now vulnerable. The wider compatibility expands the potential user base for performing console modifications.
Relapse exploits a long-known WebKit vulnerability within the PS5's web browser. It escalates privileges to gain write access to the PS5 kernel, allowing for the installation of an ELF loader that streamlines the execution of arbitrary code. The method is reportedly more efficient than previous jailbreak exploits, which were known to cause significant system slowdowns.
This breakthrough could pave the way for new user-created modifications and applications on the PlayStation 5 platform.
