PS5 Update 14.10.00 May Block GTA 6 Playability for Modders

Sony's latest PlayStation 5 firmware, version 14.10.00, has been released. Reports suggest this update closes security vulnerabilities that allowed console modification, potentially impacting the ability to play upcoming titles like GTA 6.

Sony has released a new firmware update, version 14.10.00, for its PlayStation 5 console. This update is expected to address security vulnerabilities previously discovered that allowed users to modify the console and run custom software. Such modifications are often referred to as "jailbreaking."

Developer Nathan Fargo had previously identified a method to "jailbreak" PS5 consoles by altering the system's DNS settings to a specific IP address. This workaround enabled the execution of self-made software but was limited to firmware versions 13.60 and below.

Notably, the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI has been reported to require the latest firmware, 14.10.00. This means players eager to play GTA 6 at launch will need to update their consoles, which is likely to disable the previously effective modification methods.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19. While there is still time before the launch and system requirements may evolve, the new firmware update presents a barrier for those who relied on older exploits. Research into PS5's security mechanisms is ongoing, and new methods to exploit the system may emerge in the future.
