Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) has introduced its GridSmart Battery Program, a pilot initiative based in Newark, New Jersey. The program aims to advance the modernization of New Jersey's electrical grid by providing homeowners with a $5,000 incentive toward the purchase of eligible home battery storage systems.
Participants in the program will benefit from a backup power source during electricity outages. Simultaneously, the energy stored in these home batteries can be utilized to help stabilize the grid and reduce load during peak demand periods. PSE&G is focused on enhancing grid efficiency and resilience through investments in modern technologies.
The primary objective of this pilot program is to gather data on the performance of residential battery systems and their interaction with the local power grid. The collected information will be analyzed to assess how this technology can be more broadly integrated into future grid operations and customer support.
Findings from this pilot are expected to inform future grid development plans. The program is currently open to eligible homeowners within PSE&G's New Jersey service territory.
