Publix Closes Stores for Redevelopment and Expansion

Southeastern U.S. supermarket chain Publix has closed a number of its locations throughout 2026. One of the most recent closures was a store in Palm Bay, Florida, located at 4711 Babcock St NE. This closure was reportedly due to a planned redevelopment project that will demolish the existing building, which had been in operation for nearly 50 years.

Other closed locations include stores in St. Petersburg and Miami, Florida, as well as in Goose Creek, South Carolina. These closures are often related to plans for property upgrades or broader development initiatives.

Despite these individual store closures, Publix appears to be expanding its overall footprint.
