Global ingredients supplier Puratos has significantly expanded its use of regenerative agriculture practices across its U.S. wheat supply chain. The company is enrolling approximately 30% of its wheat flour volumes into mass balance regenerative agriculture programs aimed at improving soil health and biodiversity.
This initiative is part of Puratos' broader objective to source 50% of its ingredients regeneratively by 2030. The company collaborates with suppliers, cooperatives, and milling partners to promote practices such as crop rotation and reduced tillage. These methods are associated with improvements in soil organic matter and water retention, supporting more resilient agricultural systems.
According to Luther Hardin, Senior Procurement Manager at Puratos USA, adopting regenerative agriculture practices is crucial for addressing pressures farmers face, including weather and long-term viability. "Our role is to work alongside our partners to build a more sustainable and robust supply chain, in a way that's practical and scalable," Hardin stated.
The U.S. initiative builds on pilot programs launched in 2022. The focus is on integrating regenerative practices directly into supply chains and production environments, ensuring they are feasible and functional for customers. Puratos continues to foster collaboration and long-term partnerships to advance responsible sourcing and transparency.
