PwC's US CEO Supports Children's Career Choices in Accounting

Paul Griggs, US CEO and senior partner at PwC, has voiced his support for his children potentially pursuing careers in accounting and consulting, even as the firm adjusts its recruitment strategy. PwC has been increasingly focusing on hiring data scientists, engineers, and machine learning experts.

Griggs emphasized that the core functions of accounting and consulting have not fundamentally changed despite technological advancements. He also noted that PwC is increasingly hiring individuals from non-traditional backgrounds, such as liberal arts majors, highlighting the value of broad knowledge in the age of AI.

While AI has influenced the firm's hiring practices, Griggs views it as a driver of growth and new opportunities. He described the current situation as the firm's "biggest opportunity we've ever had."

Recent recruitment changes at PwC include a significant reduction in entry-level positions. Earlier this year, the firm announced it would hire new associates for its advisory division in only 13 offices, down from 72. Last year, PwC also stated its intention to recruit one-third fewer new graduates by 2028.

Griggs also advocates for further education, such as master's degrees, and would encourage his children to pursue such paths if interested. He believes these programs foster curiosity and independent research skills, which are crucial for professional development.
