Qingdao's Second Jiaozhou Bay Underwater Tunnel Boring Completed
The tunnel boring phase for Qingdao's Second Jiaozhou Bay Underwater Tunnel has been completed. This 17.48-kilometer project marks the world's longest and most extensive underwater road tunnel construction.

Tunnel boring for Qingdao's Second Jiaozhou Bay Underwater Tunnel has concluded, with the "Guohao" Tunnel Boring Machine reaching its final milestone at a depth of 105 meters below sea level. This project is noted as the world's largest and longest underwater road tunnel construction.
The total length of the Second Jiaozhou Bay Underwater Tunnel is 17.48 kilometers. The bored section of the main tunnel spans 3255 meters, supplemented by a 5854.6-meter service tunnel. The construction employs a hybrid approach, combining tunnel boring with drill-and-blast methods to accommodate the geological conditions of Jiaozhou Bay. Over 90% of the drill-and-blast sections are complete.
Upon completion, the tunnel will connect Qingdao's Shinan District with the West Coast New Area. It will integrate with the existing Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel, the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge, and the Ring Expressway, forming a multi-layered cross-bay transportation network. This development signifies Qingdao's entry into a "dual-tunnel era," enhancing the city's connectivity and economic accessibility.
