Qobuz reports revenue growth amid industry-wide pushback against AI music

Streaming service Qobuz outperformed the broader music streaming market in 2025, reporting a 45.7% revenue increase compared to the industry average of 8.8%. The company’s monthly active users reached 1.2 million, a trend attributed by management to a growing consumer demand for human-led music discovery over algorithmically driven platforms flooded with AI-generated audio.

Managing Director Dan Mackta has explicitly positioned the company against what he terms "music-esque content." To maintain platform integrity, Qobuz has removed approximately four million AI-generated tracks from its search tool and blocked royalty payments on roughly 60% of streams identified as fraudulent AI activity. Additionally, the service now tags tracks that are confirmed to be AI-generated.

Qobuz differentiates itself through a model centered on high-fidelity audio and human editorial staff, maintaining a team of 120 employees to curate playlists and provide music journalism. By eschewing an reliance on automation for content selection, the company has attracted users seeking relief from the automated content landscape. While Qobuz uses AI for back-end efficiency, it mandates that creative outputs remain strictly human-generated.
