QQ for HarmonyOS receives test update with personalization features

Tencent's QQ application for Huawei's HarmonyOS operating system has begun a limited beta testing phase for its latest update, version 9.2.39 (build 3212). The testing, open to invited users who receive a notification, will run from July 8 to July 24, 2026, according to IT Home.

The new test version focuses on enhancing user experience through increased personalization. Key additions include a new QQ Gifts feature, allowing users to send and receive virtual gifts and browse a gift wall. Users can now also set custom themes, message bubble styles, and personalized avatars. The update further enables users to customize their "space" backgrounds and set cover images for their profile cards.

Further enhancements in this beta include the introduction of QQ Weather functionality, settings for channel information and message viewing, and an update to the multi-person album feature in "spaces" to invite friends. Additionally, users will be able to add friends through "face-to-face" encounters.

This precedes the recent stable release of QQ for HarmonyOS, version 9.2.36, which brought features like mini-program search and account switching for login authorization. The HarmonyOS version of QQ has accumulated over 42.8 million installations and holds an average user rating of 2.5 out of five stars from 41,000 reviews, supporting core chat, voice/video calls, and social feed functionalities.
