Qt releases Clate tool for code-free embedded interface design

Qt has introduced Clate, a design tool that allows users to create embedded system interfaces visually and export them as QML code.

1 November 2026

Qt has launched Clate, an interface design tool focused on human-machine interaction (HMI) for industrial, medical, and consumer electronics. The software allows designers to create visual layouts that are automatically mapped to QML code, which can then be imported into Qt 6.12 for further backend development by engineers.

The tool integrates an AI assistant that interprets natural language instructions to generate or modify interface elements. The current version 0.6 supports connection to Anthropic’s Claude agent via the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), requiring users to manage their own access credentials.

Currently in beta, Clate lacks advanced features such as reusable components and data binding. Qt has outlined a roadmap that includes adding animation editing, design system management, and real-time collaboration features through 2027. The final commercial release is expected in the summer of 2027.
