Qualcomm Asked to Launch Mobile Platform for Local 100B AI Models by 2028
AI companies have requested Qualcomm to launch a mobile platform supporting local execution of 100 billion parameter AI models on smartphones by 2028. This is expected to drive a new "super cycle" for smartphones.
Qualcomm has received requests from artificial intelligence companies to develop a mobile platform capable of running 100 billion parameter AI models locally on smartphones by 2028. Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon disclosed this in a recent interview. The realization of such local models is anticipated to significantly enhance user experience and enable advanced collaboration between multiple AI agents.
Amon believes that AI agents will spearhead the next "super cycle" for smartphones, potentially stimulating device upgrade demand that has been dampened by rising prices. He also identified smart glasses as the most promising category of AI-powered wearable devices. Furthermore, Qualcomm's expertise in low-power technology is seen as a valuable asset for the company in the data center market.
Regarding 6G technology, Amon anticipates demonstrations during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with early deployments expected between 2029 and 2030. 6G is projected to facilitate continuous high-definition video uploads, allowing individuals to contribute real-time data from the physical world to AI systems.
