Qualcomm Executive: AI on End-User Devices is Growing in Importance
Qualcomm China Chairman Meng Pu highlights the increasing role of AI on end-user devices and predicts "intelligent agents" will revolutionize user experience. The company is developing mobile platforms to support local AI processing.
Qualcomm China Chairman Meng Pu has emphasized the growing significance of artificial intelligence (AI) on end-user devices, including smartphones, PCs, and vehicles. His remarks were made during a presentation titled "AI Empowering Industrial Development, Co-creating a New Intelligent and Connected Future" at an event in Shenyang.
Meng Pu believes that the future of AI will increasingly involve collaboration between cloud and edge computing. The cloud provides powerful models and computing power for complex tasks, while devices offer unique advantages in real-time responsiveness, reliability, and personalized experiences. Consequently, AI tasks are expanding across various devices.
The development of AI-driven "intelligent agents" is further accelerating this trend. Instead of users needing to learn how to operate devices and applications, future AI systems will understand user intent and context, proactively invoking services and devices to complete tasks. This signifies a shift from an application-centric computing experience to a new stage centered around intelligent agents.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has previously indicated that AI companies have requested Qualcomm develop smartphone mobile platforms capable of running large, 100-billion-parameter models locally by 2028. Such advancements would significantly enhance local model performance and the effectiveness of intelligent agent collaboration.
