Qualcomm to Increase PC Processor Prices by 10% in October
Qualcomm is reportedly raising prices on its PC processors, including Snapdragon X Elite models, by 10% starting this month. Intel and AMD have also implemented or planned price adjustments.
Qualcomm is set to increase the shipping prices of its PC processors, including the Snapdragon X Elite and X2 Elite, by 10 percent beginning in October. The price hike is attributed to rising costs within the chip manufacturing sector, according to a report by Taiwan's Commercial Times.
Competitors have already made similar moves. Intel raised its PC processor prices in September, with the high-performance core versions of "Panther Lake" seeing the most significant increase of 15-20%. "Meteor Lake" and "Arrow Lake" processors experienced price hikes of 5-10%, while "Alder Lake N" and "Twin Lake" models saw increases ranging from 10-20%.
AMD is also preparing to adjust the prices of some of its processors, though specific details regarding the scope or timing of these increases have not yet been confirmed. These price adjustments reflect broader cost pressures across the semiconductor industry.
Processor manufacturers are facing multiple cost pressures. Wafer fabrication prices continue to rise, and the costs of components used in assembling chips into usable processors have also increased. These factors are driving companies to pass on the increased expenses to customers.
