Qualcomm's new chip integrates Wi-Fi for earbuds

Qualcomm has introduced its new Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 chip, designed to bring high-quality audio streaming to wireless earbuds and smart glasses. The chip's key feature is the integration of "micro-power Wi-Fi 6E," allowing devices to connect directly to home Wi-Fi networks. This aims to provide uninterrupted audio without requiring a constant Bluetooth connection to a smartphone.

The technology facilitates lossless audio streaming over Wi-Fi, addressing the range and quality limitations often associated with Bluetooth. Qualcomm previously explored similar concepts with its S7 Pro sound platform and XPAN technology, announced last year, which aimed to extend the capabilities of wireless audio devices beyond Bluetooth.
