Quarterhill Gains TOPAS Registration for UK Intersection Solution

Quarterhill Inc. announced its TMB-13X multilane radar detector has achieved TOPAS 2505B registration, a prerequisite for traffic signal detection technology deployed in the UK. This approval enables Quarterhill to offer its solution to UK transport authorities, aiming to enhance road safety and efficiency.

The TMB-13X is designed for complex, multilane intersections, providing an above-ground alternative to traditional inductive loop detectors. The system aims to reduce installation costs and traffic disruptions associated with in-road sensors. It can monitor vehicles and cyclists across multiple lanes, utilizing up to nine configurable virtual detection loops based on speed, direction, and presence.

The United Kingdom represents a significant market for traffic signal detection technologies in Europe. Transport for London alone operates approximately 6,400 traffic signal sites. Quarterhill's TOPAS registration expands its Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies into intersection detection within the UK, building on its existing operations. The company can now supply the TMB-13X to UK traffic signal controller manufacturers, system integrators, and transport authorities.

Donna Bergan, Vice President of Intelligent Transportation Systems at Quarterhill, stated that the registration allows for offering a flexible solution to UK customers, simplifying installation and maintenance while minimizing disruption. Quarterhill's strategy involves adapting its ITS technologies to meet specific regulatory and technical standards in each market, with TOPAS registration aligning with this international growth approach.

The TOPAS-registered TMB-13X is now available for order. This milestone follows continued momentum in Quarterhill's ITS business, including reporting its strongest quarterly profitability in over three years in August 2026.
