Québec Political Parties Commit to Responsible AI Use
Four major political parties in Québec have officially adopted a code of conduct for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in politics, ahead of the October 5 elections.

Four major political parties in Québec, represented in the provincial legislature, have formally endorsed a code of conduct for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in politics. The code, developed by IVADO and CEIMIA, aims to ensure AI is utilized ethically and transparently in political campaigns leading up to the provincial election on October 5.
The commitment follows growing concerns regarding the potential misuse of AI in political discourse, including the possibility of disinformation and manipulation. The code mandates that parties ensure the authenticity and accountability of AI-generated campaign materials and clearly disclose when AI is used to create or distribute content.
The parties signing the code include the Coalition Avenir Québec, the Québec Liberal Party, the Québec New Democratic Party (Parti Québécois), and Québec Solidaire. Their participation signals broad political consensus on the importance of ethical development and deployment of AI within the electoral process.
IVADO and CEIMIA aim to establish a framework that allows AI to be leveraged in political communication while safeguarding the democratic process. They note this is a first-of-its-kind initiative in Canada and could serve as a model for other jurisdictions.
