Quest Diagnostics to Provide Roche Alzheimer's Blood Test

Quest Diagnostics announced it will offer the Roche Elecsys pTau217 assay, an FDA-cleared blood test designed to help assess the presence of Alzheimer's disease pathology. This test will be integrated into Quest's existing portfolio of Alzheimer's diagnostic blood tests for symptomatic individuals.

The Elecsys pTau217 test measures phosphorylated tau protein 217 in the blood, a biomarker linked to amyloid and tau pathologies characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. Its inclusion provides physicians with another tool to aid in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's in patients experiencing symptoms.

In addition to the Roche test, Quest Diagnostics is introducing a new multi-biomarker Alzheimer's Detect lab-developed test. This new offering aims to provide actionable insights with a reported indeterminate rate of 10%, potentially reducing the number of inconclusive results for patients.

These additions expand Quest Diagnostics' capabilities in providing blood-based biomarker tests for Alzheimer's disease, aligning with growing efforts in the medical community to improve diagnostic accuracy and accessibility for the neurodegenerative condition.
