Rambus Releases PMIC Chip for LPDDR6-Based SOCAMM2 Memory Modules
Memory interface chip maker Rambus has launched a new PMIC chip for LPDDR6 DRAM-based SOCAMM2 memory modules. The chip is now available for sampling.
Memory interface chip provider Rambus announced on October 13 the release of a new PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) chip designed for LPDDR6 DRAM-based SOCAMM2 memory modules. The company also stated that the chip is now available for sampling.
SOCAMM2 is a replaceable memory module based on LPDRAM technology, recognized by several CPU manufacturers for its high performance and energy efficiency. NVIDIA currently utilizes this memory type in some of its CPUs, and AMD plans to incorporate it into its upcoming EPYC 9006 LP "Verano" processors.
This release marks a move towards the next generation of memory technology, as current SOCAMM2 products utilize LPDDR5X chips. Rambus's development of LPDDR6 support for SOCAMM2 modules lays the groundwork for the ecosystem's future expansion and the transition to a newer memory standard.
Rambus is positioned as one of the three major memory interface chip companies. The introduction of this new PMIC chip is aimed at enabling more powerful and efficient memory solutions for computing applications.
