Rapido Expands Services, Entering Food Delivery and Competing in Broader Mobility Market

Indian mobility platform Rapido, which began as a bike taxi service in 2016, has significantly expanded its operations. The company is now pursuing a "super app" model, aiming to compete across a wider range of services including food and parcel delivery.

Rapido has evolved from a singular bike taxi platform into a broader technology-enabled mobility and delivery ecosystem. Its current services encompass bike taxis, auto-rickshaws, cabs, parcel and hyperlocal delivery, and food delivery through its Ownly service. This expansion places Rapido in direct competition with a larger set of players, including established companies like Ola and Uber, as well as specialized regional alternatives.

The company states it facilitates over 5 million rides daily and operates in more than 400 cities across India. As of April 2025, Rapido estimated its network included 2 million active monthly bike taxi partners. According to its own assessments from April 2025, Rapido held approximately 70% of India's bike taxi market, nearly 40% of auto-rickshaw rides, and 22% of cab-hailing services.

Rapido reported increased operating revenue and narrowed net losses for fiscal year 2025. Operating revenue rose by 44.2% to ₹934.4 crore (approximately $112 million USD), while the net loss decreased by 30.3% to ₹258.4 crore (approximately $31 million USD). This marks the second consecutive year of reduced losses. The company also secured $240 million in funding earlier in 2025 at a $3 billion valuation and is considering an IPO within the next two to three years.

The expansion into new verticals, such as food delivery via Ownly, positions Rapido against competitors like Swiggy and Zomato. The company's strategy relies on leveraging its existing technology, customer base, and delivery network to support these new ventures. A key challenge for Rapido's future profitability will be whether it can generate sufficient revenue from these expanded services to cover their costs and achieve overall profitability.
