Rapido Secures Cab Aggregator License in Karnataka

Mobility unicorn Rapido has secured a cab aggregator license from the Karnataka State Transport Authority, allowing it to offer four-wheeler ride-hailing services in the state until August 2031.

The license was granted under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016. This formalizes Rapido's ability to operate car-based taxi services within the state, complementing its existing bike taxi operations.

Rapido currently provides bike taxi services across 21 cities in Karnataka. The company claims to have onboarded over 300,000 captains and serves over 20 million registered customers in the state. Rapido has also been included in the state government's Urban Mobility Mission initiative.

This development comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the safety and regulation of bike taxis. The Karnataka government has previously raised concerns about passenger safety and insurance for bike taxis in legal proceedings concerning a ban on the service.
