Raspberry Pi increases price of 16GB models due to DRAM shortages
Raspberry Pi has raised the price of its 16GB RAM Raspberry Pi 5 to $385, citing persistent supply constraints in the DRAM market.

Raspberry Pi has increased the price of the 16GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 by $80, bringing the total cost to $385. The device, which originally launched at $120, has now seen its retail price more than triple since its introduction due to ongoing supply chain challenges.
In addition to the standard board, the 16GB variants of the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 have also received a $40 price increase. These modules are now priced between $375 and $415.
CEO Eben Upton stated that the adjustments are specifically driven by a lack of alternative supply for 16GB DRAM chips, compounded by broader component shortages. Upton acknowledged that while these increases are unwelcome for consumers, they remain unavoidable under current procurement conditions.
The company continues to navigate a difficult hardware market where memory availability remains the primary bottleneck for production costs. There is no immediate indication of when these supply-driven price pressures might subside.
