Raspberry Pi increases prices for 16GB memory models due to supply constraints
Raspberry Pi has raised the retail price of its 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 model by $80, citing ongoing memory component shortages.
Raspberry Pi confirmed a price hike for specific models in its lineup, attributing the move to surging costs and supply chain constraints in the DRAM market. The 16GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 is seeing the most significant impact, with its price increasing by $80 to a new total of $385.
In addition to the flagship board, the 16GB variant of the Compute Module 5 has also seen a price adjustment, rising by $40. CEO Eben Upton noted that the organization faces limited alternative supply sources for 16GB DRAM, forcing the price revision. Other models, including the 16GB Pi 500+, remain unaffected by the current change.
While the company describes the memory shortage as a temporary market phenomenon, the price increases highlight the growing cost of high-capacity memory for small-board computers. Historically, many Raspberry Pi units launched at price points between $35 and $60, making the current $385 price tag a significant shift for the product series.
