While "gone gold" traditionally means a game's final version is ready for mass production of physical discs, the term's meaning has evolved with the rise of digital distribution and day-one patches. Physical copies of Rayman Legends Definitive Edition require an internet connection for installation, suggesting that post-launch updates may address any remaining issues.

The original October release date coincided with a crowded autumn schedule for game launches. This period saw many other significant titles set for release. Ubisoft officially cites a desire to "continue polishing the game" as the reason for the delay, though avoiding direct competition may also have influenced the decision.
