RTX's Raytheon division has secured a five-year contract, with two option years, valued up to $6.3 billion for the production of SM-3 IB interceptors. The agreement provides long-term stability for missile defense capability.
ARLINGTON, Va. – Raytheon, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, has been awarded a multi-year contract valued at up to $6.3 billion by the U.S. Department of Defense for the production of SM-3 Block IB interceptors. The contract duration is five years, with the possibility of two additional option years.
The agreement is intended to ensure long-term production stability and supply chain reliability for a critical missile defense capability. The SM-3 IB interceptors are a key component of the U.S. Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system, designed to counter ballistic missiles in space.
This procurement supports the defense capabilities of the United States and its allies amidst a dynamic global threat landscape. Raytheon has been the prime contractor for the SM-3 interceptor program since 2000, and this contract reinforces its position as a provider of missile defense solutions.
Raytheon will supply the interceptors to the U.S. military as well as to international customers who have committed to acquiring the system. The total potential value of $6.3 billion highlights the significance of this investment in advanced missile defense technology.
