Razer Basilisk V4 Pro mouse features 180-degree turn, sparks e-sports debate

Razer has launched its Basilisk V4 Pro and HyperSpeed mice, featuring a new "perfect 180-degree turn" input function. This feature has prompted discussion within the professional e-sports community regarding its fairness and compliance.

Gaming peripheral manufacturer Razer has released its new Basilisk V4 Pro and Basilisk V4 HyperSpeed mice. A key new feature is the "perfect 180-degree turn" input function, which allows for rapid directional changes in games with minimal physical mouse movement.

The function is designed for players of shooter games who use low sensitivity settings. It enables faster reactions and effortless 180-degree turns, potentially offering an advantage in situations like being flanked. This feature is implemented at the driver level of the mouse and functions as a macro.

However, the new feature has ignited debate within the e-sports community regarding its fairness. Some players and communities question whether the function provides an unfair advantage and may violate the rules of certain games. The permissibility of such macros varies by game and has drawn parallels to previous discussions about keyboard SOCD functions.

For instance, Counter-Strike 2 professional player Robin "ropz" Kool has stated that he believes this function should be considered cheating by Valve for its games. Razer has not directly commented on the criticism, but the feature remains an optional addition within the mouse's software.
