rbb Reports on 2019 Activities: Program Changes, Cultural Broadcasts, and Social Initiatives

German public broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) covered a range of topics in its 2019 press releases, focusing on its programming and societal engagement.

Towards the end of the year, rbb announced program schedule changes on its television channel in response to the death of Manfred Stolpe, highlighting the broadcaster's role in commemorating public figures. Additionally, rbb partnered with the neighborhood platform nebenan.de for the "WIR WEIHNACHTEN" (We Christmas) initiative, which aimed to combat loneliness by facilitating over 300 organized holiday gatherings across Berlin and Brandenburg.

In cultural broadcasting, rbb aired live events such as the "AfriCourage" festival from Gambia. This concert event, broadcast live on radioeins, was also relayed to more than ten European broadcasters, demonstrating rbb's international reach.

The broadcaster also provided updates on its long-running programs. A report celebrated the 30th anniversary of the ARD-Mittagsmagazin, noting its successful move to Berlin and increased focus on political coverage, which resulted in a strong market share. A documentary film featured the first four months of life for two panda cubs born at the Berlin Zoo.

Technologically, rbb expanded its digital radio network by densifying the DAB+ signal and launching a new transmitter in Templin, aimed at improving reception and sound quality for digital radio listeners in the Brandenburg region. These announcements reflect rbb's diverse operations as a regional media provider.
