London – RBC Capital Markets has been approved as a General Clearing Member (GCM) by European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC), the primary clearing house for Europe's energy and commodity markets. This designation allows the bank to clear and settle trades on behalf of non-clearing members (NCM).

RBC Capital Markets has a long-standing commitment to growing its European energy and commodity business. Achieving GCM status with ECC represents a significant step in this strategy. Clients, including major European energy producers, utilities, and financial institutions, are expected to benefit from enhanced market access, more robust clearing solutions, and increased support during the energy transition.

As a GCM, RBC Capital Markets will now offer a full suite of clearing services covering power and gas futures and spot contracts, European Energy Exchange (EEX) emissions allowance auctions, and a wider range of products across the EEX platform. This expanded offering enhances the bank's capacity to serve its clients in the European energy and carbon markets.

"Becoming a General Clearing Member with ECC is a significant milestone for our clearing and derivatives business," stated Eric Aldous, Global Head of Clearing and Derivatives at RBC Capital Markets. "It broadens our scope, enables us to offer more services to our clients, and provides market participants with deeper and stronger access to European energy and commodity markets. This reflects our commitment to delivering clearing solutions that meet our clients' evolving needs."

ECC welcomed RBC Capital Markets as a General Clearing Member, stating it will provide the trading community with broader access to EEX's energy and commodity markets. The clearing house emphasized that RBC's entry further strengthens the role of clearing markets in risk management and ensuring efficient, transparent trading.
