RBC Capital Markets gains General Clearing Member status from European Commodity Clearing
RBC Capital Markets has been granted General Clearing Member (GCM) status by European Commodity Clearing (ECC). This allows the bank to clear and settle transactions for non-clearing members in European energy and commodity markets.

London – RBC Capital Markets has officially obtained General Clearing Member (GCM) status from European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC), Europe's leading clearing house for energy and commodity markets. This strategic development empowers the bank to clear and settle trades on behalf of non-clearing members (NCMs), significantly expanding its operational capabilities in European financial markets.
The new GCM status enables RBC Capital Markets to offer a full suite of clearing services for electricity and gas futures and spot contracts, carbon auctions on the European Energy Exchange (EEX), and a wider range of products across the broader EEX platform. This expansion supports the bank's objective to strengthen its European energy and commodity franchise, providing clients, including Europe's energy producers, utilities, and financial institutions, with enhanced market access and more robust clearing solutions. This is expected to assist clients in navigating Europe's evolving energy and carbon markets, as well as the energy transition.
RBC Capital Markets views the acquisition of GCM status as a significant step forward for its clearing and futures business. It is anticipated to broaden the bank's reach, enable the offering of new services to clients, and improve market participants' access to European energy and commodity markets. The bank emphasizes its goal to provide clients with flexible clearing solutions that meet evolving market needs.
ECC serves as Europe's premier provider of clearing solutions for energy and commodity markets. Its operations encompass not only clearing services but also the facilitation of trading in energy products, natural gas, environmental products, and freight globally. RBC Capital Markets' new position with ECC further strengthens its network, offering deeper market liquidity and risk management capabilities.
