ReactOS Operating System Now Runs Valve's Half-Life 2
The open-source ReactOS operating system has successfully run Valve's classic game Half-Life 2. This achievement follows the project's earlier success in getting the original Half-Life to operate on the system.

The open-source operating system ReactOS is now capable of running Valve Corporation's classic game Half-Life 2. The ReactOS project team announced the development on social media, marking a significant step after recently confirming the successful operation of the original Half-Life on their platform.
Demonstrations show that the latest nightly build of ReactOS can successfully boot and run Half-Life 2. The test utilized an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 graphics card with an older NVIDIA Windows driver, alongside a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card driver.
This development comes as ReactOS also recently reached a milestone by implementing Windows NT6 system calls for the first time. This addition of the initial batch of NT6 processor functions to the codebase represents progress for the nearly 30-year-old, clean-room developed open-source project.
ReactOS aims to provide a free, open-source alternative to Microsoft Windows, capable of running applications designed for the Windows platform. The ability to run demanding software like Half-Life 2 demonstrates continued progress in the project's compatibility goals.
