Red Lobster redesigns dining rooms to attract younger customers
Red Lobster is testing a new store concept aimed at preserving familiar elements while presenting them in a fresh, contemporary way. The redesign is part of a broader comeback effort following a recent bankruptcy.

Red Lobster is piloting a new restaurant concept designed to retain familiar elements while offering a fresh, contemporary guest experience. The initiative is part of a larger strategy to revitalize the seafood chain after a recent bankruptcy filing.
The redesign, developed in collaboration with interior design firm Zebra, centers on the "newstalgia" concept. This approach aims to honor recognizable brand elements and carry them forward in a relevant and updated manner. The new style is characterized as "contemporary coastal modern," resembling a smart, upscale beach house.
Initial rollouts in three U.S. locations feature elements such as lobster tanks, portholes, and rope dividers. The updated interiors incorporate a lighter color palette, refined materials, and cleaner lines, including wood floors, chairs, and white wood-paneled walls, to create a brighter and more timeless atmosphere.
Red Lobster is seeking a renewed path forward after facing financial challenges, including a 2024 bankruptcy filing and subsequent acquisition by a private investment group. The updated dining rooms are intended to enhance the customer experience and compete within the casual dining sector, which has seen increased interest as fast-food prices rise.
