ReddiNet implements automated hospital capacity tracking in California

The California Department of Public Health has introduced the Hospital Bed and Emergency Data System (HBEDS) to automate the tracking of hospital bed availability. Developed by ReddiNet, the platform replaces traditional manual reporting methods, offering health and government officials a continuous view of capacity at facility, regional, and state levels.

By integrating directly with hospital electronic health record systems, the platform updates data every 15 minutes. This frequency is intended to improve patient routing and resource management during routine operations and emergency surges. Onboarding of acute care hospitals began in August 2026.

George Greene, president and CEO of the Hospital Association of Southern California, noted that the system is designed to improve coordination across the healthcare network. Beyond automating state reporting, HBEDS ensures compliance with federal hospital capacity requirements while reducing the administrative burden on clinical staff.
