Reddit, the popular online discussion platform, announced it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. Public access to its application programming interface (API) will be shut down by March 2027. These changes will prevent researchers, social listening tools, and AI assistants from accessing Reddit data via the API without commercial agreements.

The platform cited that RSS has become a "common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse." Moderators using RSS for alerts are directed to use Discord Relay, an application available on Reddit's Developer Platform. No direct replacements are offered for users who access Reddit content through feed apps.

Developers and third-party applications are encouraged to migrate to Reddit's Devvit developer platform. The company has established a $1 million App Migration Program, offering $1,000 and free hosting and technical support to eligible apps that transition. Over 14,000 apps and bots have registered so far.

These actions align with Reddit's strategy to monetize its data for AI companies. Reddit licenses its user content to AI firms, and its "other revenue," which includes data licensing, grew 24% year-on-year to $43 million in the second quarter. The company has recently tightened controls on unauthorized bot usage and data scraping, including legal actions against several companies.
