Actress and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon is making a return to Hollywood by buying back the media company she founded, Hello Sunshine, which was sold in 2021.
Witherspoon is partnering with French production company Mediawan for the acquisition. Hello Sunshine was previously sold to private equity firm Candle Media for approximately $900 million. Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine co-founder Seth Rodsky will join the company's board as part of the deal.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. However, reports suggest the purchase price is significantly lower than the original valuation. Hello Sunshine has produced notable films and television series, including "Where the Crawdads Sing," "Big Little Lies," and "The Morning Show."
The company aims to elevate women's stories through its productions. It also operates Reese's Book Club, which frequently adapts books into film and television. This acquisition marks a new chapter for Witherspoon's media venture and reflects changes in the Hollywood business landscape.
