Regent Hong Kong has announced the death of its founder, Robert H. Burns. Burns established Regent International Hotels in 1970 with the Tokyu Group, playing a pivotal role in the development of the luxury hospitality sector.
His career began with the opening of the first Regent property in Honolulu in 1970. In 1980, Burns realized his vision with the launch of Regent Hong Kong, which quickly gained international acclaim and was named "Best Hotel in the World."
Burns oversaw the creation of 18 luxury hotels over 22 years, with Regent Hong Kong, situated on Victoria Harbour, serving as his flagship. His influence also extended to industry education and advocacy.
The reopening of Regent Hong Kong in 2023 marked a new chapter for the iconic hotel. Michel Chertouh, Managing Director of Regent Hong Kong, stated that Burns' "extraordinary vision and dedication to excellence transformed Regent Hong Kong into a beacon of unmatched luxury."
