China's Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) has announced a significant increase in the number of registered unmanned aircraft systems (drones). In the first half of the year, the total number of drones registered nationwide exceeded 4.78 million.

These registered drones accumulated a total of 26.41 million flight hours, marking an 8% increase year-over-year. The figures were presented during the CAAC's mid-year review meeting for the civil aviation sector. The administration also highlighted overall improvements in industry performance, including flight punctuality and safety metrics.

The growth is occurring in conjunction with the implementation of a national standard, "Civil Unmanned Aircraft Registration and Activation Requirements," which became effective on May 1. This standard outlines the procedural and technical requirements for drone registration and activation, aiming to enhance airspace management and security.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Public Security has drafted guidelines for administrative penalties concerning illegal or non-compliant drone operations. Violations, such as operating a drone without proper registration, can result in fines ranging from 200 yuan up to 20,000 yuan for more serious offenses.
